Meet Your Coach
I’m Jamie — founder of JJ Strength & Fitness, based in Oxford.
I help people build strength, confidence, resilience, and better performance through 1–1 personal training in Oxford, online coaching, and youth athletic development.
Whether you’re an adult who wants to feel stronger and healthier, an athlete looking to improve performance, or a parent wanting to help your child build confidence and physical skills, my goal is simple:
To help you become stronger, move better, and build habits that improve life both inside and outside of training.
But beyond coaching, I’m also a dad, a weekend bread baker, a hot sauce enthusiast, and someone who genuinely enjoys learning new languages.
From Ski Bum to Strength Coach
When I was 21, I left university and moved to the Swiss Alps and spent six years skiing, travelling, and enjoying life with very little structure.
It was brilliant — until I realised I was drifting further away from the person I wanted to become.
I felt unhealthy, low on energy, undisciplined, and stuck.
That’s when I discovered strength training and purposeful physical preparation.
Training gave me far more than fitness.
It gave me confidence.
It taught me resilience, discipline, and what it feels like to trust my body.
Those lessons changed how I approached every area of life — and they’re a huge part of why I coach today.

Client Success Stories
"He is passionate and knowledgeable about his work and understood my goals from our first meeting. The programme he’s designed for me working with areas of tension and weakness built up over many years which I believed to be irreversible, not so. I am delighted with how I feel in my body."
— S. Bowers, UK
“Training with Sensei Johnstone has been nothing short of epic for me. When we started training, I was at a serioudly low point and stuck in a horrible cycle. Jamie started me off with small steps and we built from there. I now regularly exercise 3 x per week and have a much better relationship with food.”
— J. Hutton, UK
“I’ve had a few sessions now with Jamie and I can honestly say he’s a super knowledgeable and genuine guy. I really like how our sessions are really productive but also have a good laugh at the same time.”
— A. Hughes, UK
"Jamie has been working with our most elite dancers for a few months now. The improvements that we have seen have been outstanding. Jamie is professional, approachable and works really hard to ensure that each member of the elite is being challenged but also ensuring to work around any existing injuries."
— MP Dance Academy, UK

FAQ SECTION
-
No. My online coaching is available across the UK.
I have coached clients across the world from the USA, Australia, Europe, the UK, and New Zealand.
-
Most clients check in weekly with support available between.
Having said that, it depends on your schedule. If you’re on track and making progress, often we’ll check in a little more informally. But I’ll always be in touch with you at the very least once per week.
-
Absolutely. Sessions are adapted to your experience level.
I’ve coached everyone from complete beginners who’ve never touched a weight, to very experienced lifters.
-
Sessions are 60 minutes including warmup.
-
I provide practical nutrition guidance and lifestyle/habit coaching.
This is all included within the training programme.
-
Yes—hybrid coaching options are available.
This typically looks like 1-2 sessions per week, alongside a personalised online training plan for you to complete in your own time at your own gym.
-
Typically secondary-school-aged athletes and teenagers.
I coach athletes between the ages of 12-18. I can take athletes younger than this but the training is less structured and more ‘play’ focused.
-
Yes, my training programmes are always supervised by me and age appropriate.
-
A wide range including football, rugby, athletics, tennis, squash, hockey, basketball, cricket and general athletic development.
-
Although big results usually come after a few months of dedicated training, most people notice improvements in energy and strength within weeks.
My clients often mention feeling more confident first and foremost.
-
That’s common. The goal of my training programmes is to create something sustainable for you or for your child.
If this stuff were easy, I’d be out of a job!
-
No experience is required.
Experience helps, of course. But you can be a complete beginner and still start training with me.
-
Yes we can focus on fat loss—through a mix of training, nutrition and lifestyle support.
-
This depends so much on your goals, schedule and recoverability between sessions.
A large part of training with any of my clients is getting to know them well over the first 4-6 weeks so I can programme appropriately for their goals, schedule, and how much training their body can handle within a weekly cycle.
